A Story About Love

The Couple

February 2013

It's a typical day at work, which means I have a gchat window open in the background of my computer. I start chatting with a long-time friend (Brittney) who casually mentions that she has a friend in DC who I should meet.  To quote Brittney, she's "cute and has a nice body."  Those sound like impecable qualifications, and after a few google searches, her resume is confirmed.  I agree to a "virtual meeting," although I have zero expections.

March 2013

Terrance has had my number for several months (weeks really, but who's counting?) but has failed to call me.  This is unacceptable.  I hope he doesn't think his generic, sporadic, texts are sufficient.  I'm puzzled as to why Brittney ever bothered mentioning this guy to me. #OnToTheNextOne

April 2013

I'm in DC visiting some friends.  Although Nydia lives here, she's out of town doing some AKA thing.  Oh well.  It sure would be nice if this Nydia person--who I've already invested 8 text messages in--was around.

It's now Sunday, my last day in the District.  Nydia texts me: "I'm back in town."  Hmm... My flight leaves out of BWI in about 2 hours, so that doesn't leave too many options.  I do have one idea though: "So... This might sound random, but  can you give me a ride to the airport?"

 June 2013

I'm telling all my friends that I've met my husband!  All it took was the best first conversation ever.  And to think, when he asked me for a ride to the airport, I almost told him "umm... I'm not a cab driver." Thank God I listened to that nagging voice (divine intervention) telling me to just do it!

We just had our first official date, AND we're going to see each other again next month.  I wonder when he's officially going to ask me to be his girlfriend.  #SummerOfLove

August 2013

Terrance is moving to DC!!! We're meant to be.

August 2013

I'm moving to DC!!! You only live once.

It's our second day in Greece--we arrived at the port of Mykonos Island around sunset.  My nerves are shot!  I know I'm going to propose and I let the perfect moment pass.  Unfortunately, I couldn't unwrap the ring in my pocket from the 12 layers of tape I hid it in.  We're now headed back to the car after a night of food, drinks and fun.  It's now or never.  (And by "never," I mean "tomorrow.")  And with the ring unwrapped (finally), I'm ready to make my move.

Terrance is acting suspicious. And his hand has been in his pocket for most of the night.  "Hey Terrance, did I feel something round in your pocket when I bumped into you?"  He's playing dumb, but something is definitely up.  He never acts this obtuse. I wonder if there's something he wants to ask me...

OMG!!!  Terrance just asked me to marry him.  Of course, I said YES.  #HePutARingOnIt

August 2014

"Let's  stop by the port again; I want to get one more picture with the water in the background."  Although it's pitch black out, I can't think of another reason to get Nydia alone. I tell Nydia that I've loved her since I met her and that it's "well-established" (inside joke) that we're going  to spend the rest of our lives together, get down on one knee, and ask her to marry me.

"Like a cliché love story, I’ve known Nydia was 'the one' since our first date.  God has blessed me with the most loving, generous and kind person I’ve ever met.  Since Nydia entered my life, I haven’t gone a day without smiling.  And now, I can't imagine my life without her.  Nydia is my confidant, my best friend and my sunshine on a cloudy day.  I'm so looking forward to spending the rest of my life with her."

~Terrance

"Terrance (more affectionately known as love muffin) is the man I prayed about. He's loving, thoughtful, intelligent, humble, and understands me. Terrance is my best friend and the love of my life, always challenging  and strengthening me. Without a doubt, God answered my prayers when he brought Terrance and me together. I look forward to a lifetime of love as husband and wife. "
